If Teams Keep Missing the Mark, Start Here

One of the biggest barriers to effective execution inside organizations isn’t laziness or resistance.

 It’s a lack of clarity.

As leaders, we often assume people are dropping the ball because they don’t care.

But more often, it’s because they’re unclear about:

 What’s expected

 Who’s responsible

 When it’s due

 How success will be measured

Here’s a simple diagnostic I use with leaders:

When something isn’t getting done, ask: “Is the problem effort, or clarity?”

9 times out of 10, it’s clarity.

If your teams are missing the mark, try this reset:

- Define the outcome. What does success actually look like?

- Clarify the “who.” Ownership needs a name, not a department.

- Set the check-in rhythm. Accountability without micromanagement.

Effective leaders close the clarity gaps across teams, departments, and leadership levels.

Because clarity doesn’t just improve performance.

- It builds trust.

- It reduces rework.

- It creates momentum.

What’s one place in your organization where clarity might be missing?
